George Dunlap is a Democrat elected to his second term on the Board.
Commissioner Dunlap served 14 years as the District 3 representative for the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board, where he served as chairman of the Safety Committee, a member of the Policy Committee, a member of the Finance, Capital and Budgeting Committee and as a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Education Foundation and was the chairman of the Audit committee.
Commissioner Dunlap serves as chairman of the county’s Efficient and Effective Government Committee, a member of the Public Safety Committee, a member of the Economic Development Committee, and serves as the liaison to the Mecklenburg County Fire Commission.
Additionally, Commissioner Dunlap is serving a two-year term as Chairman of the Centralina Economic Development Commission. He is a former DARE Officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, where he was employed for 27 years before retiring in June 2005.
Commissioner Dunlap received his master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2003. He received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1991. In 1983, he received an Associate Degree in Correctional Science from Central Piedmont Community College.
